Batch File Rename - Quick Start
The Main Window
Shown below is the main window for the Batch File Rename tool.

Getting Started
Renaming files using the Batch File Rename tool is very easy. Simply follow the
steps below and you are well in your way.
No change is made to any file until the Rename button is pressed, so you can play
with all the options in complete safety. In fact, that is the best way to learn,
and every item on the screen give immediate feedback.

Open the application
|
Simply double click on the desktop or start menu icon, as shown to the left.

Add a rename directory
|
When the application opens, as can be seen above, you will need to move to the directory
containing your files. This can be done be either clicking on the Browse button,
as shown to the left, or dragging and dropping files from Windows Explorer.

Choose file options
|
In area 1 above there are the following options:
- Applies to: Allows switching between showing directory or files.
- Filter: Allows the files/folder list to be refined to a more specific
list. For example "*.jpg" will only show images.
- Include Sub Directories: Check to include more than the current
directory deep in the file list.
- Depth: Sets the number of directories deep to include in the file
list.

Add rules
|
To add rules you can either:
- Click on the "Add Rule" toolbar button
- Click on the rule list next to the rule set located in area 3 in the diagram above.
Rules are added to area 4, and the currently selected rule is shown in area 5 for
editing. As rule options are changed, the new file names are displayed in real time
in area 2.

Select files
|
Once the rules have been configured, the "Mark Mode" can be changed for
more refined selection of the files that will be renamed when the Rename button
is pressed. The options are:
- Manual: full control is give, by allowing the ticks in the Mark
column to be freely changed.
- Automatic - Changed: ticks in the Mark column are automatically
set to any file that has changed. This is the default.
- Follow Selection: ticks in the Mark column track the rows selected
in the file list.

Click rename
|
Files that have new name are marked by a green arrow in the Status column; files
that are to be renamed also have a tick in the Mark column. Click in the rename
button to execute the renaming of the files.

That's it - easy!
